“When we started spending our time rescuing native wildlife, our primary driver was to treat them with care and compassion. This however has developed into a deeper understanding of them, as individuals, a part of a mob and as a vital part of life. We are privileged to be active members of MRWN and to work with Wildlife Victoria, to save, care, transport and help alleviate the suffering that much of our native wildlife experience. It is this group that provides for us the support, care and expert knowledge that we rely upon.”

“As a new carer and rescuer, I’ve appreciated being able meet others who are doing the same work. I’ve only been a member of MRWN for a short amount of time and have already created supportive and meaningful relationships.

We face so many challenges in the work we do. Being able to debrief with those who walk in the same shoes, is essential. I look forward to meeting more members and being more active in the community.”

"Through MRWN and Wildlife Victoria, I’ve found a community of like-minded people who share a deep respect for wildlife and the environment. Together, we make a difference—one rescue at a time.

Volunteering in wildlife rescue is not just about helping animals in need; it's about being part of something larger than yourself. It means showing up—often in challenging conditions—to respond with compassion and care. Whether it's rescuing an injured kangaroo, bottle-feeding a joey, or supporting others behind the scenes, every effort matters.

It’s incredibly rewarding to work alongside people who give their time, skills, and resources selflessly to protect and preserve our local wildlife.”
