MRWN Presents at Parliamentary Wildlife Roadstrike Inquiry

Yesterday, MRWN committee members Erin, Deb and Meaghan, along with two of our most experienced rescuers Manfred and Trevor, presented our submission to the Parliamentary Inquiry into Wildlife Roadstrike at the Bendigo hearing.

Together, they addressed each of the eight Terms of Reference outlined by the Economy and Infrastructure Committee, drawing on firsthand rescue experience and local data from the Macedon Ranges — the region with the highest rate of wildlife roadstrike in Victoria, with over 3,000 reported cases in 2024 alone.

Their evidence prompted thoughtful discussion and many questions from the Members of Parliament, reinforcing the urgent need for change.

Both Meaghan and Deb also spoke individually as guests on ABC Radio morning programs, helping to raise awareness of this issue across the state. This is not just about wildlife — it’s also about human safety, with vehicle damage, near misses, and emotional trauma affecting many residents of the Macedon Ranges.

MRWN remains committed to working collaboratively with government, community and stakeholders to improve outcomes for both wildlife and the public.

A safer road for wildlife is a safer road for everyone.
