Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic)

Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme, known as CDS Vic, is an initiative that offers a 10-cent refund for every eligible drink container returned to a designated refund point. This scheme aims to reduce litter, improve recycling quality, and provide a way for individuals, charities, and community groups to raise funds.

The process is straightforward: you collect eligible drink containers, take them to a refund point, and then choose to either receive your 10-cent refund per item or donate it to a registered organization. Most drink cans, cartons, and glass or plastic bottles between 150 millilitres and 3 litres are eligible, and you can usually find a “10c” mark on the label. Lids can be left on the containers as they are also recycled. There are various types of refund points available, including self-service Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs), staffed depots for larger quantities, and over-the-counter (OTC) services at participating businesses.
